Psychotherapy & Counselling

What is Therapy?

Psychotherapy is a talking therapy where your individual situation is discussed and you are taught tools and techniques for understanding how you can gain control of your emotional responses more effectively.

Solution Focussed Psychotherapy allows you to learn more about yourself. This includes an understanding of how your brain works, gaining new tools to manage uncomfortable emotions and intrusive thoughts and understanding behavioural reactions. It can help you overcome any barriers currently in your life.

Utilising positive psychology allows focus on the future and what you would like to be doing more of once your mental health needs are in balance.

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social wellbeing. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. It is important at every stage of our life and knowing how to take care of it is an important life skill.

A Psychotherapist is a mental health professional who will help you to overcome emotional distress and improve your emotional wellbeing as quickly as possible so that you can go on to enjoy a balanced life of positive mental health and enjoyment.

You may benefit from therapy if you’re experiencing any of the following:
g-ul
Suicidal Thoughts
Anxiety
Depression
PTSD and Trauma
Anger
Workplace Stress
Burnout
Obsessive Thoughts

What is Human Givens Psychotherapy?

Source: humangivens.com

The Human Givens approach to psychotherapy and counselling draws upon  neuroscientific findings and evidence based techniques.

It is a brief, solution-focused approach which utilises a variety of approaches e.g. CBT, DBT, Behaviour Therapy, Trauma Informed Approaches and in doing so helps people feel better and move on in their lives as quickly as possible.

At its heart is the understanding that, when a human being’s essential emotional needs are not met and their innate mental resources are being used incorrectly, mental health issues arise.

This school of Psychotherapy encompasses “a practical, holistic and scientific approach focusing on what individuals need to live mentally healthy and fulfilling lives.”

HG therapists work with people in mental distress; they seek ways to redress the missing emotional needs, lower emotional arousal as well as teaching  important life-coping skills.

Integrating a positive psychology approach enables people to move forward with their lives and provides hope that the future can feel differently and they can go on to engage fully in their lives once more.

All Registered Members of the Human Givens Institute have successfully passed the Human Givens Diploma at practitioner level (HG.Dip.P.).

HG therapists have to be listed on a register which has been accredited in the UK by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA).

This mark of quality assures the general public, service commissioners and employers that Human Givens practitioners belong to a register vetted and approved by an independent statutory body.

INDIVIDUAL & TAILORED TO YOU

> Michelle Buckles

MBA, MHGI, HG.Dip.P, PG.Dip. Rehab Psych. Bsc (Hons) Psych.

Using the most up-to-date Psychotherapeutic understanding and techniques, I will strive to help you move forward with your life as swiftly and effectively as possible.

Therapy is available for people age 16+

I share with you emotional coping tools and techniques that give you back control over strong emotional responses and that allow you to think clearly and make good decisions regarding the shape of your future.

In addition you will learn about how evidence based science informs our view of the brain and behaviour allowing you to understand more about what is happening and ways to manage it.

The power of mental rehearsal is a technique used to help visualise what the future could look like. This effective tool enables new neuron connections to stregthen (neuroplasticity) and is the first step to building habits of change.

My number one aim is to help you to leave each session feeling more hopeful that you can feel differently and to be able to move forward in a positive way.

My specialist area of interest is helping people with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and experiences of trauma to move on from the life threatening situations which have caused them to become ‘stuck’ and unable to live life in the present.

Instilling hope that the future can be different and using up to date evidence based techniques to reprocess the trauma allows the body and mind to work together to de-traumatise disturbing events.

All appointments can be booked online and a complimentary consultation call is always recommended as the first step.

help-2

Michelle met me when I was in a very vulnerable place, emotionally fragile and needing guidance. Over the course of the last few months she has helped me remember who I am and the importance of self care. Having experienced a recent traumatic event she helped me overcome the anxieties that were effecting me and gain a new perspective on the events of the past. I am forever grateful for her time, her kindness and her support.
